Alisha Walker

46993749745_fb23773855_zTwenty-three-year-old Alisha Walker has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for stabbing a man who was about to stab her, resulting in his death. Her act of self-defense also saved the life of another woman. Alisha, a sex worker, was criminalized for both the work she did and for defending her life. As Support Ho(s)e, the main group supporting her in Chicago, has written, “Alisha Walker was working when she was attacked. Her attacker, Alan Filan, was a regular client who became aggressive, hostile, and demanded unsafe services while under the influence of alcohol. When Alisha refused, he escalated from threats to violence. As she felt her life at risk, Alisha fought back. For defending herself, and saving the life of another woman who was on the scene, she is facing 15 years behind bars” Supporters, including Support Ho(s)e, are now organizing for Alisha’s freedom. Alisha is from Akron, Ohio, and is now incarcerated in Illinois’s Decatur Prison.
